Description:

The queen of this species measures around 8mm, the workers are between 2 and 5mm and the male around 6mm from dark brown to black in colour.

Food:

Cobblestone ants are omnivores, feeding on animal and plant matter in the wild. In the house, they go for meat, nuts, cheese and honey, but their preference will be meat and fat.

Habits:

Cobblestones ants settle in the house more often than not at ground level under the concrete slab near a heat source especially in winter but can be found in the walls, insulation and under the floor from the ground floor.

Reproduction:

Outdoors the queen and males mate in flight (swarming), usually in early June and late July, but can also do so at any time indoors.
